Cody Petrulis: YES they need software!!YES they need anti-virus software.
Alma Twomey: YES / YES
Monroe Rainey: perhaps
Clark Lachowski: no. it needs Windows 10 so it will actually do something useful first.
Felipa Nosis: yup
Hugo Pittari: Yes. I hate it when Apple fanboys go like "But but the Mac is far more superior because it never ever ever gets viruses." I also hate it when people say that with out anti-virus soft you get billions of viruses on your PC. Windows 8-10 has built in anti-virus soft that doesn't need any set up and protects your computer as well as high end expensive softs.Lets be real, if you get viruses on your PC/Mac then I suggest you not to watch some weird porn on a daily basis and not to click on every other ad that says "Click "I'm and idiot" to redeem your 1 mil $"....Show more
Clement Viscarro: Mac machine have very good security software of itself but to ensure more security i recommend you to go with additio! nal antivirus like AVAST
Veta Slicker: Macz do not need any ativirus software. Viruses for Mac OS do not exist. only malware or adware injections. It may be eliminated manually.
Brian Freedland: No
Gladys Worthing: Do Macs Need Antivirus
Antonette Shappy: Technically no computer needs antivirus, as long as you know what you're downloading and installing on your computer. But no computer is impervious to viruses. Macs can easily get viruses as well. For your sake, I'd get an antivirus program.
Elbert Donatelli: You don't need it,you don't need it for windows too if you know what are you doing...
Mohamed Szollosi: Of course Macs need software to work, that's what OS X is... software! And you need apps (which is software) to do certain things on a Mac.An anti-virus is not needed on any computer, if you know how to stay secure yourself (eg. don't go on dodgy websites, install random things, open dodgy spam mail, etc.)
Zora Mazzie: Macs! are far less susceptible to viruses than Windows but they can! still be infected so it is a good idea to have anti-virus software. I would not run anti-virus software 24/7 in the background though. On a mac that would be a waste of resources. Instead, just run a manual virus scan once or twice a month.
Jestine Osumi: Yes you need an AV program for your MacBook. There is no denying that Apple makes one of the most secure computers on the market, but macbooks do become infected.
Lynn Hollars: Yes, they do.
An Trebil: No.http://rixstep.com/2/20130908,00.shtml
Davis Zou: Yes of course
Marty Tichnell: yeah
Lon Pennington: I don't see why not
Imogene Neiswander: Stay off of porn, free movie, and "replica" sites and you have little to concern yourself with.
Dawn Saha: Simple answer: Nah, not needed unless you don't have common sense, or aren't very tech savy.
Emile Okafor: Needed? Not if you are extremely careful and never download anything, or open anything. There are thousands of virii ! that can attack Windows and a couple of dozen that can attack a Mac. (and most of those have been blocked with security updates sent out by Apple as part of their standard updates.) I have Avast, a freeware anti-virus app that I use on all of my Apple devices from computers to iPhones and iPads. Works quite well. It may not be necessary, but it is nice to know it is there in case of that slim chance that I run into a Mac virus. (It is fun to watch as it tells me about all the Windows virii it is also blocking that are attached to the spam email that periodically floods a computer.) I also use the freeware, Malwarebyte for Mac (Used to be called Adware Medic) to blokck the malware that anti virus software doesn't recognize as actual virii. I use several add-on extensions in Firefox (Which is much more secure than any other browser. Be advised that Chrome is as bad as IE for security holes!!!) such as Avast (same company has a plug-in for the browser for additional protectio! n when browsing the web) Ghostery (shows and allows you to prevent trac! king by websites. Even Yahoo has trackers that they attach to you every time you connect to them. On my computers, they can't see anything that I am doing!) and AdBlock. (good pop up ad blocker.) None takes any real space and none slow down operations. They are small, but nice to have as "just in case" features in this age of scams and people trying to steal and spy.And I as a Certified Apple Tech I am curious as to what exactly these "built in" malware protections in the Mac OS X are. It sounds more like someone who WANTS Macs to be attacked, or is sadly misinformed. Granted that the Apple security fixes in the updates neutralize any threats they can, but that does NOT eliminate the need for some back up protection....Show more
Otto Lingafelt: Not necessarily. But it's always a good idea to not be at risk.
Monty Sieloff: No, but not for the reasons given above.Unlike Microsoft, Apple has built-in all of the Anti-Malware Apps OS X needs, since Snow Leopard. And! , Apple updates and maintains these Apps as needed for free. How do I know this? I switched from Windows the day Microsoft let Windows 8 loose on an unsuspecting world.I now use OS X, Linux Mint, and Android Linux daily......Show more
