Are classic cars expensive to repair?

Karl Jantzen: I think it's kind of naive of everyone to say that it won't be expensive. Maybe, for example, carburators are simpler and cheaper to replace than fuel injectors and drum brakes are cheaper than discs, but classic cars break down a lot if you put any kind of mileage on them. They just do. New cars broke down more often anyway 50 years ago, but they're even less reliable now that they have 50 years of wear on them. And let's say the windshield gets a crack in that old Studebaker, then you've got a problem. That's not to say that old old cars aren't fun to have, but don't kid yourself into thinking that it's a rational decision to own one....Show more

Mauro Cowee: yes.im 99% sure it cost alot to repair cause the item needed to repair it wont really be out now so you wil have to make like a special order so it will ocost more and i think it cost alot to put in cause it's hard and they r kinda nervous cause they might damage your car so im pretty ure it will! cost alot more

Travis Sherrock: Because it is hard to determine the condition of the car without looking at it, it really is hard to say. In general, the answer is no. It is hard to find the parts sometimes and this is where the tricky part comes in. What is good is that you can certainly try to find these parts a little bit easier than previous years since you can look for them online. Good luck with your future purchase!

Gene Debell: no its not that expensive unless the parts are hard to get and for the more popular classic cars parts are easy to get your hardest thing will be to find a good mechanic most places don't care to be bothered with them because they don't make as much money repairing them. Getting parts usually takes longer so then they have there garage tied up with it. I would say don't worry much about that for the little you will be driving it it won't have many problems i have owned several classics over the years and very seldom do they! have a problem....Show more

Marna Liddie: A classic car! is no more to repair for regular type of maintenance things. The problem comes in when you need parts. You have chosen a very popular brand that has many supporters, you can find a lot of information and support through the Studebaker club of America. As you know by now the car takes on a different life and becomes a part of the family and yes this becomes expensive as you will do anything to save this car. Have fun you have been chosen as the keeper and protector of this piece of history! Some times we don't choose them, they choose us. Good luck!!...Show more

Dalila Yoon: parts can be fun to find on the older ones like that. mine is not quite that old but not too far from. go to yearone.com and see what you can find there. outside form that most of the common failures can be dealt with on a small budget.
