Malissa Porth: Sulphate emissions.Just as gases such as carbon dioxide have the ability to retain heat within our atmosphere, there are gases such as sluphur dioxide which do precisely the opposite. They reflect incoming solar radiation and so the planet cools down.SO2 was produced in vast quantities in the early to mid 20th century, primarily from power stations. In 1952 a blanket of sulphate laden smog descended on London and killed 12,000 people. This lead to the first of the Clean Air Acts being passed. In the years that followed countries around the world followed suit.Unlike carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide is more rapidly dissipated out of the atmosphere by means of a three way chemical reaction which ultimately produces sulp! huric and nitric acids (acid rain). With the SO2 removed from the atmosphere global warming caused by CO2 and other greenhouse gases once again come to the fore.PS â" CFCâs are a separate issue altogether. They donât cause cooling (outwith indirect relations to O3 depletion) and only one of them, dichlorodifluoromethane, contributes a significant amount (0.9%) to warming. All the others contributes less than 0.5% between them....Show more
Norma Marsalis: Not likely but we need to convert to green energy for everything possible to ensure your great grand children will still have some semblance of a quality of life.
Kip Ockenfels: Global warming is real, but the argument that it's being caused by CO2 alone is ridiculous, It's an increase in government funding for scientific research at the expense of others in order to destroy the global economy and transfer power from the private sector to the government.
Jannie Ariola: Schell argued that given the ! incredibly dire state of things, a world-destroying nuclear ex! change was inevitable. A nuclear exchange was virtually certain to happen, sooner or later, he said, and when it did radioactive clouds would blot out the sun and create a ânuclear winterâ resulting in the extinction of human life. Once it started, there was no going back. The concept of inevitability was mortised into the framework of the argument. 2. It was also depicted as a race against time! We had only a teeny-weeny window in which to reverse the horrendous policies and mindset of our ignorant, bellicose leaders (read: Republicans). It was, like, so super urgent, action had to be taken, like, yesterday. 3. But, almost paradoxically, it was already too late! In the bottomless pit of his despair and revulsion at the civilized world for imperiling the planet, Schell contended that we were already too far gone, and it really was too late to stop the nuclear holocaust, although everyone had a moral duty to try. Sound familiar? What we have here, as Yogi Berra would say! , is déjà vu all over again. The eerie parallels between the nuclear-freeze movement and the global-warming movement are clear: the direness of the forecast (which resembles prophecy and has a teleological dimension); the dramatic, race-against-time urgency of the healing project; the element of existential threat as a goad to activism; the notion of human extinction and the âfateâ of the earth hanging in the balance, as if suspended by a slender thread; and finally, the admonition that it is probably already too late. Jefferson Sarson: Baccheus, Using your logic, man can only be responsible for about 3*0.17, or 0.51 degrees of warming maximum. That with a 40% increase in CO2. Even this makes no sense as it would suggest that the CO2 did not start having any effect until 1980, even though the indu! strial revolution started well before this. Further, give that the temps line up nicely until 1980, It is rather odd the from about 1980-1995 we had ~0.17 degree/decade and the 0.12 degree per decade from 1995-now, this makes the arguement of exponential rise extrordinarily difficult. Further, both 2010 and 1998 were strong "El nino" years and thus it be very difficult to say that we are even responsible for the 0.51 degrees of warming....Show more

Coralie Goldsberry: This data seems to fly in the face of global warming theory linking CO2 & Temperature. We all agree that CO2 concentration in the atmosphere has steadily increased during the last century. But the average surface temperature did not and shows three distinct phases. An (almost) linear increase in temperature from 1910 to 1940, a flat to slightly falling temperature from 1940 to 1980 and then again an (almost) linear increase until now.So if the warming last century occurred mostly between 1910 and 1940, when the carbon dioxide concentration grew slowly from 293 to 300 ppm. Then on the other hand, the temperature remained steady between 1940-1980, while the carbon dioxide concentration increased from 300 to 335 ppm. Also before you say areosols there are no dramatic long term drops starting in the year 1978 when the EPA implemented a ban on CFC aerosols, or dramatic long term increases in the 1930's wh! en CFC aerosols were first produced. So, by simple logic, we are left again with the fact that CO2 emissions don't match the temperature record over the 20th century, why should they in the 21st century? By the very models referenced by this member of the Church of Climatology sulphate emissions have had an increasing cooling effect on global climate with no appreciable shifts related to CFC aerosol use. So be careful if you accept the AGW scam you are prime meat for any of the rash of identity theft email scams out there. Well they played out the same scenario in the 20s and 30s, first the new ice age is coming in the 20s and then the Co2 causes global warming in the 30s. But then it was part of promoting a new refrigerant called Freon that would prevent the possibility of global warming that Co2 refrigerant could cause if it escaped into the air. Remember Freon, it that nasty gas that is supposed to harm the ozone layer. This whole thing is about propaganda and profits, Freon was great up until the patent! extensions ran out and they were no longer getting royalties from other companies making it so they got it banned and a new less efficient gas with a fresh patent protection cycle was introduced by them. There are always a group of tame low level scientists who will sell their souls to who ever pays them the most to promote a specific agenda, remember the tobacco wars in congress. Madie Strople: Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-20th century and its projected continuation. Global surface temperature increased 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the last century.[1][A] The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that increasing greenhouse gas concentrations resulting from human activity such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation caused most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century.[1] The IPCC also concludes that variations in natural phenomena such as solar radiation and volcanoes produced most of the warming from pre-industrial times to 1950 and had a small cooling effect afterward.[2][3]! These basic conclusions have been endorsed by more than 45 scientific ! societies and academies of science,[B] including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.[4] A small number of scientists dispute the consensus view.Climate model projections summarized in the latest IPCC report indicate that the global surface temperature will probably rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the twenty-first century.[1] The uncertainty in this estimate arises from the use of models with differing sensitivity to greenhouse gas concentrations and the use of differing estimates of future greenhouse gas emissions. Some other uncertainties include how warming and related changes will vary from region to region around the globe. Most studies focus on the period up to the year 2100. However, warming is expected to continue beyond 2100 even if emissions stop, because of the large heat capacity of the oceans and the long lifetime of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.[5][6]An increase in global temperature will ca! use sea levels to rise and will change the amount and pattern of precipitation, probably including expansion of subtropical deserts.[7] The continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice is expected, with warming being strongest in the Arctic. Other likely effects include increases in the intensity of extreme weather events, species extinctions, and changes in agricultural yields.Political and public debate continues regarding climate change, and what actions (if any) to take in response. The available options are mitigation to reduce further emissions; adaptation to reduce the damage caused by warming; and, more speculatively, geoengineering to reverse global warming. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions...Show more

Marjory Stromme: http://www.globalwarmingart.com/images/thumb/a/a2/...Should help explain it.Early 20th century warming was dominated by solar influence. 1940-70s cooling was dominated by sulphate 'dimming'. 1970-2010 warming has been dominated by greenhouse gas warming. They all contributed to varying degrees at different times, but you can identify and approximately summarise 3 distinct 'stages' like that.Your logic of trying to pick a single variable and correlate it at all times with temp! erature is fallacious. Solar activity and temperature haven't correlated well for 40 years now. This doesn't mean that the Sun can't affect climate! ! Virgil Menefee: Global warming is getting worse everyday. As longs as there is cars, factories, and machanic running it gets worse. I don't think we will dies in 2050 though. I think there will be serious problems though.
Stephnie Patout: There's a lot of ups and downs in the chart, but the trend line is always up. There's a reason for this. The earth heats because of incoming insolation. While this varies from time to time it has an upward and lower limit...at least over the last several millions years. What doesn't change is the fact that incoming visible light daytime radiation, no matter how strong MUST be balanced by nighttime out going infrared radiation or there will be a heat build up. That's why the inside of your car gets so hot if you park in the sun. Visible light can get in, but if the windows are rolled up the heat generated can't get out...just like a greenhouse...hence...greenhouse gases like CO2 and methane. In 1955 CO2 was measured at 310ppm..! .'75...330ppm...'85...345ppm...1995...360ppm, and on Dec. 7th 2009 it w! as at 386ppm. Given that it took from 10,000 years to go from 280ppm to 284ppm in the early 1800 and has been rising ever since....associated with industrial pollution... I'd say that we have trouble abrewin'! Heat physics tells us that the upward 'safe' limit is 350ppm...a point we passed in 1990. At this point were already getting more heat than we're losing....not a big problem if we turn off the CO2 machine, but a big problem if we don't. Why? Because at 400ppm the heat increase is rapid and that means a really big problem. This doesn't include the increase in methane pollution..a gas that's 20 times more of a barrier to exiting heat than CO2. The gradual thawing of the artic tundra is throwing a lot of methane into our paper thin atmosphere...enough to overcome any cooling aerosols. Anyway you slice it there is a cozy relationship between greenhouse gases and atmospheric warming. Right now we're only 14ppm away from that magic 400ppm business. Coy Tapley: It is the scientific belief that carbon emissions are puncturing holes in the ozone (layer in our atmosphere that protects us from harmful sun-rays), and these holes are allowing more and more "sun-rays" in, which is believed to cause global temperature increases.
